Our school is a North Yorkshire
Community Middle School for
pupils of all abilities in years
six, seven and eight (ten to
thirteen year olds). Children
usually start here at the end of
year five and go to Settle
College at the beginning of year
nine, together with pupils from
Ingleton Middle School.
We have seven
main feeder primary schools at
Austwick, Giggleswick,Long
Preston, Hellifield, Rathmell,
Horton-in-Ribblesdale, and
Settle. Children from
neighbouring towns and villages
such as Malham, Kirkby Malham,
Otterburn, Coniston Cold,
Airton, Gargrave, Tosside, and
Skipton can, and often do,
choose Settle Middle School. (
Ingleton Middle School has five
feeder primary schools at High
Bentham, Burton-in-Lonsdale,
Clapham and Ingleton.)
Parents whose children transfer
to Settle Middle School from our
local primary schools in the
normal way at the end of year
five, are invited to the school
with their child before the end
of the summer term. Other
parents are always welcome to
make an appointment with the
head teacher to visit the
school. There is also a full
induction program involving
various events arranged for the
new year six pupils, both before
and after their transfer to
Settle Middle School. Every year
we also hold an open day, which
is open to anybody, so that you
can see the school in operation
for yourself. Admission
arrangements are administered by
the LEA and are set out in a
booklet. " A guide to Parents in
the Harrogate & Craven Area",
which is available from the Area
Education Office and always try
to keep the size of our classes
as small as possible. There are
currently four forms in years 6
and 8 and three in year 7. Our
admission limit is 97.

Child care / safety
arrangements
With the onset of winter and
the possibility of bad weather I need to remind
you of this message from North Yorkshire County
Council.
“During inclement weather
conditions there may be occasions when school
buses or taxis are unable to operate. Please make sure
that you make proper arrangements to ensure your
child’s safety in such circumstances.
If parents choose to make their own arrangements
to get their children to school, they must also
ensure that they are able to get them home as it
may not be possible for normal transport to
operate in the afternoon.
Parents should also be
aware that schools might call transport in early
in severe weather conditions. Parents
are then expected to ensure that children are
given proper instructions to ensure their safety
in these circumstances.”
Please note that in severe weather conditions
when the County Council deems it necessary to
call transport in early it will not be possible
to contact parents in order to inform them as
this often only happens at very short notice.
